China is boosting efforts to ensure orderly resumption of work and production, and has already achieved positive progress in fighting the novel coronavirus, the country's top economic regulator said on Monday.

Cong Liang, secretary-general of the National Development and Reform Commission, told a news conference enterprises above designated size in China are actively expanding their production capabilities.

Particularly, large enterprises are ahead of small and medium-sized companies in terms of resumption of work. Compared to downstream industries and labor-intensive enterprises, upstream participants and capital-intensive and technology-intensive companies reported a faster resumption of production, Cong noted.

Currently more than 70 percent of major industrial companies in Jiangsu, Shandong, Fujian, Liaoning, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces have restarted production, and Jiangsu reported it reached 90 percent, NDRC data showed.

Additionally, 67.4 percent of steelmakers have restored production, and those engaging in non-ferrous metal business have reached 86.3 percent.

When it comes to masks, one of the most urgently needed medical protective goods, the NDRC said production capability has been expanded to 110.3 percent of normal level. And over 70 percent of food production and processing enterprises in China have restored production.

In the next step, the NDRC will work with related departments to resume work in an orderly manner. More efforts will also be made to promote reduction of taxes and fees and offer favorable financing services for small, medium-sized and micro companies, Cong added.
