NW China province sees trade growth with B&R countries

LANZHOU - Northwest China's Gansu province saw trade with Belt and Road countries and regions grow 3 percent year-on-year to 18.66 billion yuan ($2.69 billion) in the first 11 months of 2019, according to a provincial business meeting held on Tuesday.

The figure accounted for 54 percent of the total foreign trade volume of the province.

Gansu rolled out a plan to better participate in the Belt and Road construction and build a hub economic system with high-quality development of the logistics industry in 2019.

A total of 959 freight trains carrying 1.01 million tons of cargo, worth $2.3 billion, were launched from Gansu in 2019.

In the same year, Gansu also opened regular all-cargo flights from Lanzhou to Pakistan and charter flights to Singapore and Belgium for the first time, with international air cargo volume increasing 53 percent year-on-year. The grain port in the New District of Lanzhou, the capital of the province, was opened, importing 2,700 tons of wheat from Kazakhstan, worth 5.25 million yuan.
