Most Chinese bankers consider monetary policy 'moderate': survey

BEIJING - Chinese bankers reported rising sentiment on the country's monetary policy in the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year, a new survey from the central bank showed.

About 80.2 percent of the surveyed bankers in roughly 3,200 banking institutions considered the current monetary policy as moderate in Q4, said the survey on bankers released by the People's Bank of China.

The monetary policy sentiment index stood at 55.1 percent in the period, up 0.6 percentage points from that in Q3, said the survey.

The banking industry's business climate index stood at 70.7 percent in Q4, up 0.5 percentage points from Q3, while the banking profitability index stood at 67.6 percent, increasing by 0.9 percentage points from the previous quarter.

According to the survey, the overall loan demand index of the banking sector was 65.3 percent in Q4, down 0.5 percentage points from the previous quarter.
