BEIJING - Beijing reported fewer new HIV carriers and AIDS patients between January and October, according to municipal health authorities.

A total of 2,669 new HIV/AIDS cases were reported in the first 10 months of this year, down 7.1 percent year-on-year.

Since the first case in 1985, Beijing had reported 32,268 HIV/AIDS cases as of the end of October, and 22,147 of them are still alive, according to Beijing Municipal Health Commission.

Sexual transmission was the main channel of Beijing's AIDS prevalence, accounting for almost 96.3 percent of the new infections.

Beijing has taken various measures, including establishing online platforms and offering free testing kits, to expand the scope of providing HIV testing for high-risk groups, according to the commission.
