During the first day of the 30-day fishing season, a traditional ceremony was held in Shadi village, Jinning district, which is near the lake. Residents hold the ceremony to pray for a good harvest and smooth fishing.

According to the Dianchi administrative bureau, there are more than 600 metric tons of shrimp and over 300 tons of whitebait in the lake. It is expected that fishermen can harvest about 1,000 tons during the fishing season.

It's forbidden to catch other large commercial fish, like carp, which marks the first ban on such fish in four years.

The fishermen need to have obtained a fishing permit last year and they can only use manual methods or the help of the wind to catch fish or shrimp with trawl nets.
