BEIJING -- The 26th Beijing International Book Fair concluded on Sunday with a total of 5,996 domestic and foreign copyright trade deals made, an increase of 5.6 percent year on year.

The five-day book fair attracted more than 2,600 publishers from 95 countries and regions.

Books that interpret Chinese culture through arts or expression targeting international readers proved popular among foreign publishers.

A special exhibition dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China was held. On display were a large number of selected books and periodicals that showcase the development of the country and its publishing industry over the last seven decades.

Meanwhile, more than 1,180 cultural activities were organized, attracting around 320,000 visitors.

The book fair has yielded fruitful results in areas including copyright export, foreign-language book release, product promotion and strategic cooperation.

"The book fair enables exhibitions, exchanges and the signing of deals," said Liu Dongjie, president of Shandong Education Press. "Quality works can help foreign readers better understand Chinese culture and modern China."
