BEIJING - China's power generation climbed 3 percent year-on-year in the first seven months of the year, official data showed Wednesday.

Power generation during the January-July period hit 4 trillion kilowatt hours, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

In July alone, power generation rose 0.6 percent year-on-year to 657.3 billion kilowatt hours, 2.2 percentage points lower than that registered in June.

A breakdown showed the growth of coal-fired and wind-generated electricity reversed the upward trend with a decrease of 1.6 percent and 10.8 percent, respectively, while hydroelectricity increased by 6.3 percent, slightly lower than that recorded in the previous month.

Fast growth was seen in the generation of greener power, with nuclear power surging 18.2 percent and solar power increasing 13.2 percent year-on-year, according to the NBS.
