Unusual but true: 94-year-old daredevil becomes Britain's oldest female skydiver

94-year-old daredevil becomes Britain's oldest female skydiver

Adeline Franken, a 94-year-old woman living in the Abbeyfield Silverdale Society care home, has broken the British record for the oldest female skydiver ever after jumping out of a plane from 4,572 meters.

She previously skydived from the slightly lower height of 4267 meters in 2012 and has not lost the interest in skydiving.

"There is nothing to it really, you just move towards the edge and kind of flop out," she said. "You start to fall, then when you are well clear of the aircraft the parachute opens and you go back up!"

She did the skydiving to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Besides the enthusiasm for the skies, she also does other charitable activities.

She spent some of her time knitting squares with other residents, which they send off to be made into blankets for a women's hospital in Ethiopia.
