Xiaoen was diagnosed with a number of cardiac and pulmonary illnesses, including congenital heart disease, pulmonary infection and pulmonary arterial hypertension. Treatments to strengthen the heart, help him urinate and control infection were given to the baby boy.

During his 33-day hospitalization, Xiaoen was in critical condition and several times had to undergo emergency treatments.

Given the great complexity of Xiaoen's case, the doctors decided to transfer him to a more advanced medical facility where he could receive advanced treatment to increase his chances of life. They contacted the Wuhan Children's Hospital, a higher-level facility in the province's capital, Wuhan, and asked for assistance.
