BEIJING -- Volkswagen will recall 92,621 vehicles in the Chinese market due to defective gearbox control modules, according to China's market regulator.

The recall, starting on June 28, involves more than a dozen models including the Beatle, Golf, Scirocco, Audi and Sagitar, the State Administration for Market Regulation said in a statement.

Defective gearbox control modules may lead to a loss of power while driving, posing safety risks.

The company said it would replace the defective modules free of charge.
