Reality show focuses on father-daughter relationship

A reality show that brings four fathers to observe how their daughters get into a relationship using video has been aired on the video platform of Tencent Holdings Ltd on Tuesday.

The show, titled My Daughter’s Boyfriend, features Hong Kong actors Paul Chunand Felix Wong Yat-wa, former footballer Fan Zhiyiand actor Zhang Chao, all of whom have daughters of marriageable age.

The fathers will stay in the studio with other observers including actress Wang Ziwen, host Zhang Dada and Chen Ming, watching what happens during their daughters’ dates and give some feedbacks to their daughters later.

Chen, also father of two children, says this is a good chance for him to learn how to get on with his future son-in-law.

Li Xiao, the show’s producer, says the connections between fathers and the couples offer a guide for father-child relationships in Chinese families.

“For instance, Qin is an open-minded father whose daughter got a Western education system. So, the way they get along with each other is different from the others,” says Li.

She adds that she hopes the show can remind the public about family bonds, and people can pay more attention to the role of fathers.
