WINDHOEK - Serial-winning cyclist Michelle Vorster cemented her ruthless consistency as she shrugged off competition from South African rider Cherie Redecker, winning by a split second during Sunday's national mountain bike championships in Namibia's capital Windhoek.

In a fiercely competitive match-up in the Elite Women's category, Redecker had led the pack, setting a blazing pace, but failed to deny the competitive Vorster who finished one second ahead of her with a time of 3:32:17, making it five titles on the trot for the Namibian.

Spanning 70 km, the Elite Men's category saw Alex Miller crowned champion in 2:55:04, beating Tristian de Lange who came in second in 2:57:27.

Vorster used the MTB competition as an opportunity to gauge her physical and mental readiness for February's Africa Championships to be held in Ethiopia.
