China on Tuesday said that it hopes Pakistan and India will exercise restraint and carry out dialogues to promote a resolution to the Kashmir crisis that heightened tension between the neighbors.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang made the comment in response to China's role in the strained relations between Pakistan and India after a suicide attack in India-controlled Kashmir last week, which killed 40 paramilitary troopers.

New Delhi blamed Islamabad for the attack but the latter rejected the allegations. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday offered India cooperation in the probe into the attack.

As major countries in South Asia, a stable Pakistan-India relationship is important to regional stability and development, Geng said at a daily news conference, adding that the two sides should cherish and safeguard the hard-won calm in the region.
