BEIJING - A former senior political advisor of Northeast China's Jilin Province has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office over serious violations of discipline and laws, according to a statement by the top anti-graft body Saturday.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Supervisory Commission said in the statement that they had conducted an investigation of Wang Erzhi, former vice chairman of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

"As a senior official of the Party, Wang lost his ideals and convictions and showed no commitment to Party principles," the statement said, citing that the probe found Wang had turned public power into means of seeking benefits for himself and for his relatives.

He was found to have taken advantage of his posts to help private business owners obtain projects, traded power for money and collected huge amounts of money and property through his relatives.

"Wang has been disloyal and dishonest to the Party, resisted the investigation by authorities and refused to tell the truth," according to the statement.

Wang had severely violated the Party discipline and was suspected of the crime of taking bribes, the statement said, adding that he showed no sign of restraint even after the 18th CPC National Congress.

"Wang's case is serious in nature and has a bad influence, and he should be harshly punished," the statement said.

Wang's qualification for delegate to the 11th CPC Jilin Provincial Congress had been terminated, his illicit gains were confiscated and his case has been transferred to the procuratorate organs.
