BEIJING - Chrysler has announced a recall of more than 50,000 imported cars over faulty power control modules or track bar brackets, according to China's top quality supervisor.

The recall, which started on Tuesday, covers 52,980 Grand Cherokee models made between late 2012 to early 2018 and 947 Grand Voyager models with flawed power control modules, according to the State Administration for Market Regulation.

The defect could lead to unwanted acceleration and crashes. Chrysler Group (China) Sales Ltd will replace the defective modules free of charge.

Also subject to the recall are 35 Wrangler models with loosely welded track bar brackets, which could break from the car frame and compromise the steering.

The affected Wranglers were manufactured from May 7 to 10 this year. Chrysler will examine the reclaimed cars and fix any defective welding.
