Kuaigou Hailing, the logistics arm of China's largest classified online marketplace, 58.com Inc, announced the company's new strategy on Monday in Beijing.

The company's name change from 58 Express to Kuaigou (Fast Dog in literal translation) Hailing in August was a highly controversial topic both online and offline. It even ignited anger and protests by its drivers in Zhengzhou, Central China's Henan province, since "dog" usually has a negative connotation in the Chinese language, so they considered the name as humiliating.

Chen Xiaohua, founder and president of Kuaigou, said the company had prepared the brand renaming for six months and selected the new name from hundreds. "The new brand name is related to the new strategic positioning of the brand and is a serious decision after repeated research," said Chen.

Chen pointed out that there are still many painful points in urban travel, especially in the freight service sector, such as difficulty in hailing a van or truck, illegally operating vans and trucks, rejection from drivers due to cargo, cargo damage, and a lack of porter services.

"That's the reason why we rebranded the company as Kuaigou Hailing and positioned ourselves to provide moving services," said Chen.

"Kuaigou created the concept of freight taxis, and successfully solved the problem of carrying goods to travel. Through the creation of public transport facilities for moving urban freight, we will meet the needs of each individual and merchant for delivery of goods, and improve urban travel," said Chen.

Kuaigou will broaden its business to meet the needs of users needing to move goods, including door-to-door moves, transporting building materials, food distribution, delivery of electrical appliances and furniture, and transportation of exhibition materials, according to Chen.

Last August, the company merged with GoGoVan, an intracity courier and logistics company headquartered in Hong Kong, and expanded its business to six countries and regions, with 8 million users and over a million registered drivers.
