Team China arrive in Jakarta ahead of Asian Games

With three days to go until the opening ceremony of the Asian Games, 19 of the 34 Chinese delegation team officials have arrived in Jakarta, including Gou Zhongwen, director of China's General Administration of Sport.

The 18th Asian Games has already kicked off with the football, basketball, and handball competitions. The opening ceremony will be held on Saturday, and afterwards China will participate in 38 out of the 40 events, without a competitor in Kabaddi or weightlifting.

Last time in Incheon, Chinese athletes won 345 medals, including 151 golds.

Among Chinese athletes, the biggest share of the spotlight will perhaps fall on Sun Yang. The captain of China's national team arrived in the Indonesia capital on Monday evening, and is taking part in this competition for the third time. The three-time Olympic champion is looking to add to his five continental golds, while also gearing up for Tokyo 2020.

Sun spent 40 days training in Hong Kong, with a focus on his signature races, the 800- and 1,500-meter freestyles. His coaches, Dennis Cotterell and Zhu Zhigen, hope the long distance king will hit the pool hungry, while also keeping his attention on the next Olympics two years from now. The nine-time world champion's first event will be on Sunday, when he takes to the water in the 200-meter freestyle.
