Shoplifters

The winner of this year's Cannes Film Festival, Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda's Shoplifters, will open in domestic theaters on Aug 3. The film is Kore-eda's seventh movie to be screened at Cannes, but the first to win the Palme d'Dor.

The story recounts the life of a lower-class family of five residing in Tokyo. Without enough money, the three generations live under the same roof and survive by shoplifting, but a new addition to the household disrupts their routine.

Broadway-based

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, a follow-up to the 2008 film Mamma Mia! - based on the Broadway musical of the same name - will hit Chinese theaters on Aug 3.

With a star-studded cast, the movie sees the return of Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper, Stellan Skarsgard, and Colin Firth.

Set five years after the first film and featuring flashbacks to 1979, the new story is about Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried, learning about her mother's past while pregnant herself.
