The Meg

The Sino-US sci-fi epic, The Meg, headlined by Chinese A-list actress Li Bingbing and English action star Jason Statham, will hit Chinese screens on Aug 10. The movie is adapted from American author Steve Alten's 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. In the film, a 23-meter-long megalodon, a prehistoric predator which is believed to have become extinct around 1.5 million years ago, attacks a submersible carrying Chinese scientists. To rescue the trapped crew in the vehicle at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, Statham, who plays a deepsea diver, embarks on an unprecedentedly dangerous mission.
Epic spirit

The war epic Unbreakable Spirit starring Liu Ye, Bruce Willis, Song Seungheon and William Chan, will be released on Aug 17. With around 2,300 special-effect scenes, the film recreates the historical, brutal scenes of the Japanese invaders' intensive bombing on Chongqing, then provisional capital of China during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45). The bombing had continued from 1938 until 1943, causing around 40,000 deaths and injuries, according to incomplete statistics by domestic history experts.
The film was originally scheduled to be released in 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of victory in the anti-fascist war.
