6.0-magnitude earthquake strikes off Alaska

SAN FRANCISCO - An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale jolted areas near Chernabura Island in the US Northwest state of Alaska, around 1416 GMT on Thursday, the US Geological Survey said.
The quake struck off the Alaska Peninsula with a depth of about 56,000 feet (about 17 kilometers), and the epicenter was located at areas about 93 kilometers southwest of Chernabura Island. No injuries or property damage were reported so far.
The tremor caused an aftershock with magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale 17 minutes later, but no warning of tsunami threats was issued at present.
