China stands ready to step up cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) to contribute to the development of global healthcare, Vice-President Wang Qishan said on Tuesday.

Wang told visiting WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus that China appreciates the important role played by the WHO in coordinating the development of global healthcare, and supports the organization's aim to implement the sustainable development goals related to health at all levels.

President Xi Jinping stressed that we should make people's health a top priority during his visit to the headquarters of the WHO in Geneva last year, Wang said.

The Chinese government is committed to pushing forward the development of Heath China strategy, and to continuously improving the health and sense of happiness of its people, he said.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus spoke highly of the country's achievement in development of health care with Chinese characteristics.

The WHO will stay committed to the one-China principle and continue to deepen bilateral strategic cooperation in frameworks including the Belt and Road and South-South Cooperation, he said.
