The latest proposed tariffs by the United States on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports will hurt globalization and undermine the world economic order, said an official of China's Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday.

The comments came shortly after US President Donald Trump's administration said on Tuesday it would levy 10 percent tariffs on extra $200 billion worth of Chinese goods.

Li Chenggang, assistant commerce minister, said additional tariffs will put tremendous pressure on global companies and consumers.

Li stressed there are no winners in a trade war, and cooperation is the only correct choice for sustainable bilateral relations.

China will not change its long-term commitment to improve the domestic business environment, oppose the unilateral measures and support the multilateral trading system, Li said.

The country will continue to open up and provide global companies with development opportunities, he added.
