2015: The International Monetary Fund decided to include the Chinese currency in its basket. From Oct 1, 2016, the renminbi will be a freely usable currency and will be included in the special drawing rights basket as the fifth currency along with the US dollar, the euro, the Japanese yen and the British pound.
