BEIJING - China's Ministry of Transport announced on Thursday regulations to tighten supervision of ride-hailing drivers and platforms.

Starting from June 1, ride-hailing platforms and drivers will be included in the quality assessment system for taxi drivers, said Wang Xiuchun, a senior official of the ministry.

The assessment evaluation indicators include business management, safety and social responsibility, according to the ministry.

Ride-hailing companies should conduct stricter driver reviews to ensure the safety of passengers.

DiDi, the dominant player, claims more than 25 million rides each day through more than 21 million registered drivers and car owners.

DiDi announced new measures to improve passenger safety after a woman was raped and killed on May 6 by a DiDi driver.
