BERLIN -- Bayern Munich showed no mercy with Borussia Monchengladbach after coming from behind to win 5-1 on home soil at the 30th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.

Despite having clinched the 28th Bundesliga title last Saturday, newly crowned champions Bayern Munich remained focused and trashed the "Foals" 5-1 by courtesy on Sandro Wagner's late first-half brace.

However, things started other than expected as Monchengladbach secured a fairy tale start as Jonas Hofmann's pass into path found Josip Drmic, who broke the deadlock from sharp angle in the 9th minute.

Although it was a narrow 1-0 lead, Monchengladbach retraced and allowed Bayern to equalize the scores in the 37th minute when Sandro Wagner tapped home Thomas Mueller's square pass.

The German record champions gained momentum and rallied back moments later as Wagner headed home Mueller's lob into the box before the break.

Jupp Heynckes' men remained on the front foot after the restart as Thiago Alcantara poked home Wagner's rebound from very close range in the 51st minute.

The visitors were unable to put up resistance whereas Bayern kept it going when David Alaba extended the lead to 4-1 after hammering home into the bottom right corner in the 67th minute.

Bayern pressed relentlessly and weren't done with the scoring as top striker Robert Lewandowski made the most out of Joshua Kimmich's cross into the box to beat Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer for the 5-1 final score in the 82nd minute.

"I have always told my team that we have to keep our rhythm. We needed 20 minutes to gain a foothold into the game before we took over step by step. After the break, we staged a faultless performance," Bayern's head coach Jupp Heynckes said.

Leaders Bayern Munich extended their lead to 23 points atop the standings meanwhile Borussia Monchengladbach continue on the 8th place, which is not enough for the international business.
