Consumers can now vote for their favorite Chinese brands after the China Council for Brand Development announced the top 100 Chinese brands on May 10, which was designated Chinese Brands Day by the State Council in 2017.

Voting is open until April 30, and consumers can vote for "my favorite Chinese brand" on Xinhua.net and chinanationalbrand.org.cn.

In a separate development, the council hosted the first plenary meeting of a new ISO technical committee called ISO/TC 289 in September 2017 in Beijing.

The meeting was held after the technical management board of the International Organization for Standardization decided to create the new technical committee -- comprising 12 countries, including China -- to establish standards for branding, brand management and brand reporting in January 2014.

Meanwhile, speaking about the Chinese brands poll, Ma Lincong, the deputy director of the China Council for Brand Development, says: "Made-in-China products are well-known both at home and abroad, but few Chinese brands are known by the world. Also, some traditional brands are liked by older consumers, but are not popular with young people. And some brands need support to develop. So we have a lot of work to do."
