The Sleeping Beauty

The court ballet in Lithuania was started in the 16th century. At the same time dance was encouraged at school theaters too. Latin school drama, which survived more than 200 years, united all the branches of the arts. Traditional plots as well as those taken from Lithuanian history were danced then. Ballet in Lithuania was truly revived in the autumn of 1920, when Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theatre was founded, opened on Dec 31 1920 with the premiere of opera La Traviata by Verdi.

NCPA Drama Su Dongpo

Date: March 3-4-7:30 pm

Venue: NCPA, Beijing

Featuring a Chinese historical personage Su Dongpo who handled civil affairs with dedication, acted in good faith and behaved with clean hands, the drama depicts his official career, poetry composition and emotions. Different from Li Bai or Du Fu, he worked as a government official for over forty years and ministered to five emperors. Despite his turbulent official career, he kept administering and transferred to many locations, always bringing benefits to the people. He was a literary giant in the Song Dynasty, and his literary achievements were made when he suffered setbacks in his official career. In Huangzhou, Huizhou and Danzhou, where he was grieved for "demotion", Su, however, refined his thoughts and made great achievements in literary creation. The drama describes Su's literary achievements and emotional life in the background of his official career.
