China books a Winter Olympics berth in ski jumping for first time in history

China made a break-through in ski jumping as Chang Xinyue claimed a Winter Olympics berth for the first time in history with a place of 16th in the Ski Jumping World Cup women's event which was concluded in Zao, Japan.

Chang Xinyue ranked 16th in the FIS World Cup with a score of 176.5 points. Maren Lundby of Norway claimed the title with 245.9 points, Ito Yuki and Sara Takanashi claimed silver and bronze medals respectively with 215.7 and 215.4 points.

The Olympic Quota Allocation List is calculated using the FIS World Cup and Summer Grand Prix standings for two seasons added together from 1 July 2016 to 21 January 2018. The 24-year-old Chang started 16 times in the World Cup during these two seasons and finally booked a berth for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics with a total 106 points.

Chang made a great improvement in 2017-2018 season as she started in three stops of the World Cup and finished 10th in Sapporo, Japan, and 16th in Zao to take the quota. Her best results in 2016-2017 season was 23rd in Lillehammer, Norway.
