Updated: 2018-01-16

Chinese E-commerce giant JD.com announced its new partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the construction of a platform featuring the sustainability and recycling use of materials on Jan 10.

The platform will innovate solutions on the waste and pollution caused by production and the consumption chain through integrating partners within the supply chain, such as producers, retailer and public resources.

Both parties will cooperate with the Chinese government and industrial associations on the development of intellectual products by combining UNDP's global innovation resources and JD's advantages on big data, AI, cloud computing, block chain and logistics.

UNDP China country director Agi Veres said, "Companies play an important role in realizing the goal of sustainable development. The UNDP will be able to successfully tackle climate challenges, eradicate poverty and reduce inequality by continuing to work with the private companies including JD."

In recent years, JD has explored innovative modes of sustainable development in various fields. The company will invest one billion yuan ($155 million) on the JD Logistics Green Fund, aiming to improve environment protection technologies and advocate innovative R&D and green consumption.

Zhang said that JD has the ability and willingness to encourage more industry partners and consumers to jointly promote the concept of sustainable development. The company's cooperation with UNDP will lead more people to build a green, sustainable ecological system.
