For nearly four decades, the reform and opening-up have not only brought to China dramatic economic and social transformations but also, reshaped the art scene.

To showcase the changes, a series of exhibitions, Forty Years of Sculpture, will be held at Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning through 2018.

The southern Chinese city was at the forefront of China’s reform and opening-up.

The series will comprise four exhibitions, each of which covers 10 years of development in sculpture, in a reverse chronological order.

The first exhibition, which runs through Feb 23, will look at experimental explorations by contemporary sculptors between 2008 and 2017.

It will have two parts: One shows the works of 43 young artists who incorporate digital technologies, and the other is a retrospective of esteemed sculptor Tian Shixin, 76.
