By gathering the operators' electroencephalograms under various modes such as idea-induction, and combining it with artificial intelligence, this technology can extract the corresponding functional characteristics of the brain. Those characteristics can then be employed to control external devices such as UAVs, robots, and UGVs to do various tasks, meanwhile sending real-time pictures back to the experimenters so that they can adjust the control instructions in time.

This can realize the effective interaction between human brains and machines, thus improving the response and accuracy rate, enhancing the reliability and practicability of the system so that the development and industrialization of brain-computer integrated techniques can be propelled.

Based on the above technology, professor Xie‘s team has developed the "Multi-mode Brain-computer Integrated UAV Intelligent Control System" and "A Portable Brain Computer Interface Robot Control System Using Fewer Channels", which break through the restriction that brain-controlled technology usually could only be applied indoors and in quiet surroundings, with repeated demonstrations outdoors in a noisy surroundings.

The systems displayed their multiple innovations in crossing fields between artificial intelligence and brain science, some of which are reaching a world-advanced level.

According to Xie, their systems have promising prospects in auxiliary equipment for the elderly, industrial controls, education and gaming, and will help to commercialize brain-computer integrated control technology.

The Fifth Meeting of China-UK High-level People-to-people, Cultural Exchanges was held to enhance technological communication between enterprises and scientific research institutions of the two countries, and to establish substantial technical project cooperation.
