China's top political advisor calls for stronger partnership with EU

BEIJING -- China's top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Thursday called for a stronger partnership with the European Union (EU).
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks while meeting with Georges Dassis, president of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).
Dassis is in Beijing for the 15th round table meeting of the China Economic and Social Council (CESC) and the EESC on Thursday and Friday.
Yu said the meeting has become an influential dialogue and cooperation mechanism between China and the EU, which has enriched their all-round strategic partnership, and bridged people's understanding and friendship.
He called on both sides to expand exchange areas, and make new contributions to the partnership.
Dassis said EU development needs China, adding that the EESC is committed to stronger EU-China ties.
The two-day round table meeting focuses on topics including innovation, equality and inclusiveness, trade, investment and the Belt and Road Initiative.
