Over 200 recruited for doping control(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-05-14 10:10 More than 200 people with medical background have been recruited to help conduct doping control during the 2008 Olympic Games. Chen Zhiyu, an official at the games services department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Games (BOCOG), said that these staffs will be mainly in charge of the technical work such collecting blood samples and sample analysis. "They were selected from 23 hospitals in Beijing, but still need to pass exams to obtain qualification after receiving a three-day training course," said Chen. About 750 college students have also been recruited and their job includes notifying athletes of doping checks and accompanying them to the doping control rooms at the competition venues, he added. The International Olympic Committee has announced that up to 4,600 urine and blood tests will be carried out during the 2008 Olympics, a 25 percent increase over that number of controls at the 2004 Athens Games. |
