The Beijing municipal government has urged citizens to continue to fight spitting, littering and other bad habits to keep the capital city clean ahead of the Olympic Games to create a harmonious society

According to a mobilization meeting on Monday, the organizers of the campaign will give priority to key public places including railway and bus stations, Wangfujing Street, Tian'anmen Square, the areas around the Olympic venues and scenic spots.

The campaign will unfold in five stages from now till the end of the year. It will make use of publicity and mobilize volunteers and employees to pick up cigarette tails and clean up spitting trails and trash cans. Recital and award ceremonies will be held and measures will be taken to set up permanent structures.
