Central axes wire can be new Olympic sightBy Yu Nan (chinadaily.com.cn)Updated: 2007-03-15 14:14 A CPPCC member strongly recommend that to set up an Olympic geographical sight at the cross between central Beijing's axes wire and 40" north latitude in honor of Olympic spirit. Mao Yulin stressed at the today-closed CPPCC annual session that it is meaningful to set up at such a striking intersection an Olympic humanism sight. Not as being important as the cross between equator and tropic of cancer, though, the central axes wire, dubbed with "dragon's arteries and veins" of Beijing, has marked the city with thousand-year mysterious history. "Situated inside the upcoming Olympic Park field, demarcated from National Conference Centre to the west, the Olympic Garden in layout to the east, merely two or three hundred meters away from 'Bird's Nest" and 'Water Cube', the 2008 Olympic Games main stadiums, why don't we create another spotlight site to highlight the city's ancient axes wire, Olympic Park, and the Games?", Miao written in his script. He also suggested transform the new geographical sight into a "Science of Bridge" there, or an after-class educational base to spread scientific knowledge like chronometer, geography, meteorology, and environment protection among the youth. |
