Beijing to raise greening coverage to 43 pct

China's capital city has planned to increase it urban greening coverage to 43 percent in 2007 in a move to beautify its image ahead of the 2008 Olympic Games.

At a mobilization meeting on Wednesday, city mayor Wang Qishan called on citizens, organizations and enterprises to attach great importance to the city's afforestation endeavor.

Affirming the achievement in the area in 2006, the meeting set a goal to plant trees on a total land area of 12,000 hectares to bring the per-capita greening area to 48 square meters.
