Beijing Olympic News Centre to function better

Beijing Olympic News Centre since January 1st, 2007 is scheduled to hold the regular press conference each Wednesday to facilitate Olympic reporting said the official website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Friday.

The requirement of news reporting has increased as the Beijing Games is approaching. To make the task of journalists easier in the run-up to and during the 2008 Olympic Games, the centre is set to hold press conference regularly (except from the festivals and holidays) so as to release the latest Olympic news briefs.

A 24-hour service system especially facilitating overseas journalists will also come into force, which helps organize and coordinate their needs of accommodation and transportation.

A set of previous measures remain operating including providing preparation information of the Games, offering free souvenirs, and organizing visits and interview activities for journalists.

Beijing Olympic News Centre jointly set up by News Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and Beijing Municipal Government News Office after Athens Olympics, now has become a window to connect China and overseas media.

The news centre in 2006 has hold 36 news conferences, over 3000 overseas journalists and 896 native attended; about 189 interviews and 28 group visits conducted.
