Two Koreas to discuss joint entry at Asian Games(Xinhua)Updated: 2006-11-22 17:39The South Korean government agreed on Wednesday to hold talks with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on forming a joint delegation for the opening ceremony of the upcoming Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. There was no reason to reject the proposed talks, which have nothing to do with DPR Korea's nuclear test, an unamed official told reporters. The decision was a response to an offer last Thursday by Pyongyang to hold talks in Doha before the Asian Games, which was set to begin on Dec.1. South Korea and the DPRK have held joint parade in opening and closing ceremonies of international sports events for seven times since the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic Games. The two sides had reached an agreement in Macao last November during the East Asian Games to form a unified team in the Doha Asian Games and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. According to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, the two sides might discuss the formation of a joint team for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing during their contact in Doha. |
