Liu elaborated on the concepts of "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics, and People's Olympics," the guidelines Beijing devised to prepare the games.

With the Olympiad just more than 600 days away, preparations for the event are proceeding well according to schedule, Liu said, adding that the construction of 37 venues and facilities is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

At the same time, Beijing, which has a population of 15 million, is also stepping up preparations for the Olympics in terms of accommodation, catering and volunteer recruitment, Liu said.
