The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) will soon set up an OlympAfrica Centre which is aimed at, among other things, using sport as tool of developing local people, an official said on Wednesday.

ZOC chief executive Robert Mutsauki said the center would be built by funds that are provided by the International Olympic Committee through the OlympAfrica Foundation.

The OlympAfrica Foundation, which is a community-centered sport development project, will also help in raising Olympism awareness and promoting mass participation in sport in this country.

"As a matter of fact, this is a project which we are yet to be involved in and yet our counterparts in Mozambique, Swaziland and Zambia, to name but a few countries, have already set up OlympAfrica centers."

Mutsauki said ZOC have been placed on the waiting list as a future beneficiary of the funds.

The center is a project which apart from having playing fields for mass sports disciplines like soccer, athletics and other ball games, also has a hall which can be used by the community around it.
