Indonesia to evacuate 6,000 citizens in Egypt

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government has decided to evacuate about 6,100 citizens in Egypt following bloody clash to oppose President Hosni Mubarak, detikcom online news quoted a minister as saying on Monday.

"Every hour, we keeps communicating with our ambassador in Cairo. As you can see in television, security situation (in the country) is worsening. Finally, we concluded that evacuation on our citizens needs to be activated,"said Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa before attending a limited session about Egypt situation in the presidential office.

He added that the Indonesian embassy to Egypt has been collaborating with social network in the country.

"Embassy and Indonesians in Egypt also communicate,"he said, adding that most of Indonesians in Egypt are students.

Demonstration in Egypt demanding President Hosni Mubarak to step down has been lasting for six days.
