Floods swamp Philippines; over 90,000 affected

COTABATO CITY, Philippines - The number of people displaced by floods and landslides due to heavy downpour in the southern Philippines rises to more than 90,000, local officials reported.

The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) said Tuesday that as of 8: 00 am, local time, about 17,492 families in 141 low lying villages in the provinces of Surigao and Agusan have been evacuated.

In the province of Maguindanao, some 6,000 people were also displaced by flash floods.

Local officials are still assessing the total amount of damages.
