MOSCOW - The Russian, Canadian and US air forces defined their respective zones of responsibility in the just-completed joint exercises over the northern Pacific, Russian Air Forces' commander-in-chief Gen-Col Alexander Zelin said Wednesday.

"Our planes are now returning to their bases" after the first ever joint exercises "Watchful Eagle 2010" among the three nations, he said.

Zelin said the air forces of the three countries conducted exercises on how to counter a potential threat of airplane hijackings by terrorists to attack Russian, US or Canadian cities.

The air forces also conducted joint actions of transferring air control from one country to another, and the interception and landing of a hijacked plane.
