The request comes amid a concern that with the location of servers abroad it can be dangerous on security.

"The Information and Electronic Transaction Law states that operators operating in Indonesia, although internationally based, must build servers here," Indonesian Minister for Information and Communication Tifatul Sembiring was quoted by the Jakarta Post as saying.

The servers were a necessity in performing wire taps in crime cases, bringing in non-tax income for the country and decreasing service charges for customers, he added. The minister said that the ministry has sent a letter to RIM requesting the setting up of servers but has yet received any answer.
