ISLAMABAD - Pakistani police on Tuesday announced that they have arrested six suspected terrorists planning to attack President Asif Ali Zardari when he would be present at the Governor House in the eastern city of Lahore.
President Zardari is currently in China for an official visit.
The suspected terrorists arrested were also planning to attack the Lahore airport and other important places, said a police spokesman, adding that a cache of arms including anti-aircraft guns were also recovered from them.
A large-scale manhunt for terrorists has been launched across Punjab province following the July 1 suicide attacks at the shrine of Data Darbar in Lahore, which claimed 45 lives and injured 175 others.
Last Friday police arrested two young brothers in Lahore, alleging them to be involved in the terrorist attack at the shrine. But they were released on the following day after a footage of the security camera set at the shrine proved they were innocent.
