DPRK announces Rason as Directly Governed City

PYONGYANG: The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) announced Monday its northeastern city Rason has become the Directly Governed City, the official KCNA news reported.
Rason, bordering China's Jinlin province and Russia's Primorsky Krai, was classified as the Economic Special Zone in 1991.
The brief report did not mention the reason to set up the Directly Governed City, nor elaborated on whether the Economic Special Zone had been canceled.
