A silver chariot carrying the statue of Lord Murugan makes its way through Kuala Lumpur to Batu Caves temple, marking the beginning of Thaipusam festival, in the early hours of January 22, 2008. The capital of Malaysia - where 10 percent of the population are ethnic Indians - was filled with prayers and mantra chants, in the procession to fulfil vows. Devotees observe a rigorous regiment of spirituality in a month long run up to Thaipusam, including a dawn-to-dusk fast and a vegetarian diet. [Agencies]
