Updated: 2007-11-23 14:53 WARSAW-- Poland's newly formed government is ready to reopen dialogue with Russia on the deployment of the United States anti-missile shield on its territory, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said here Thursday. In an interview with foreign reporters, Sikorski said Poland wants to make a deal with Russia, and wishes Russia would end its embargo on Polish meat supplies as soon as possible. The United States is planning to install parts of its missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic, a move strongly opposed by Russia.Poland's former government declared that Poland would not discuss the issue with Russia. Russia imposed an embargo on Polish meat in November 2005, citing fraudulent veterinary certificates issued by Poland to justify the ban. In November 2006, Poland in turn vetoed the launch of talks between the EU and Russia on a broad economic cooperation agreement because of the Russian embargo. |
