Astori said the Uruguayans are "proud of being represented by this team," because "the national team is known in the world not only for soccer but also for its human quality."

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Hector Lescano said that the team "has unanimous support; we join the national feeling."

"We are here accompanying them with soul and heart," he said.

The flag-bearer is Diego Forlan. The team will be formed by 23 players among 26 already chosen, and will travel on Friday to Argentina in order to face Peru on July 4, in its first match of the Cup.
