Olympic champion Hidayat sparks Indonesia

Olympic gold medallist Taufik Hidayat sparked Indonesia to a 4-1 victory over Denmark on the second day of the Sudirman Cup world team tournament on Tuesday.

Hidayat was first on court against European champion Peter Gade and produced a composed display to beat the Dane 21-18 18-21 21-13.

Gade told reporters: "I think I played well for large parts of the game but he played very well too.

"I had a good chance to win the first game but Taufik got control of the net which was very important."

Dane Tine Rasmussen squared matters for Denmark in the women's singles only for Indonesia, Cup runners-up last time, to win all three doubles matches.

In the other game in the group South Korea beat Hong Kong 4-1 and look well set for the semi-finals after their victory over Indonesia on Monday.

In other elite group play later on Tuesday, holders China were playing England and Thailand were up against Malaysia.

A total of 48 countries, split into six divisions, are taking part in the biennial event.
